Goals for 2023-2024

  • Gain knowledge of engine tuning and ECU integration

  • Follow a strict schedule to ensure time for testing

  • Efficiently create weight savings in all sub-systems

  • Dive deeper into analysis using Ansys, Ricardo Wave, and NX

  • Recruit new engineering students

Plans in Action

ENGINE TUNING

  • Utilizing our electrical engineer's knowledge, the team's goals are to successfully troubleshoot electrical system failure modes. This includes researching integration of the engine and ECU. Traction control, launch control, and data acquisition will be key focuses of research and development this year.

  • The team is taking a class in the Fall of 2023 with a curriculum based around testing an engine on a dynamometer and analyzing the data it produces.

TIME MANAGEMENT

  • Having a car completed on schedule will allow for testing and driver training. We intend to get the car completed early in 2024 to allot enough time for testing.

WEIGHT SAVINGS

  • The weight of our car this year was 423 lbs. Next year the team aspires to be the lightest car at competition. Our plans to achieve this include modifications to the frame and billet components. Our main roll hoop can be lowered and the drivers head nested further back. The rear of the chassis can be economized by efficiently packaging the differential and rear suspension.

EXPAND UNDERSTANDING

  • Having Claude Rouelle as our design judge was exciting and inspired us to push ourselves. We read and absorbed the design judges' feedback. Our design focus is to be data driven. We want to collect and analyze results on a deeper level. This analysis will include much more CFD for aerodynamics and air intake, as well as thermal analysis on braking components. The team plans to use Ansys, Ricardo Wave, and Siemens NX.
